Update: The Hardcover

The layout and editing process is complete, and after two weeks of phone calls with the prepress team, we are finally moving toward the final stages of heading to the press. As a side note for those interested, the conversations over the past two weeks have revolved solely around ink, ink density, paper types, and color balancing. The colors we see on a computer screen are usually produced by a mix  of red, green, and blue, but the colors printed on paper are produced using a mix of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black ink. Thus, something can look great on your computer screen, but terrible by the time it comes out of your printer. Furthermore, even if you have balanced your colors correctly, it is possible to "over-ink" spots on the page, since a printer is capable of up to 400% ink density, but most papers can only take up to 250% before they start to look dark and blotchy.

All of these are lessons that we learned the hard way during the fulfillment process of The Adventurer's Guide to the Bible, and we are trying to be careful not to repeat any of the mistakes that caused setbacks during that project. After two weeks of talking about nothing but ink (and math), we are finished with the balancing process, and our hardcopy proof is in the mail. We are expecting it to arrive sometime next week, at which point we can hopefully sign off on the final proof and begin mass production.

None of these developments will affect our estimate fulfillment timeline; we're just letting you know what we've been up to.

Update: The PDF

Once the hardcopy heads to press once and for all, work can begin in earnest on converting the book into a PDF document. It seems backward that the hardcopy will be finished before the PDF, but that's the order of operations with these kinds of projects. The good news is that PDF conversion is very fast, so the PDF will be ready to go within a week from when the hardcover heads to the presses. We still estimate that the PDF adventure module will be available for download as soon as July or August.

All digital rewards will be fulfilled through Backerkit's digital download tool, and instructions for downloading rewards will be sent in a later update.

Update: Dice and Minis

We have confirmed (again) with our manufacturing partners that our dice and minis are queued for production and on schedule. They should follow a similar timeline for delivery as the hardcover, and we are currently estimating delivery of physical rewards by December.

Update: VTT

The conversion of the module into virtual tabletop assets is progressing well ahead of schedule. We originally estimated delivery of the Roll20 and Foundry VTT modules by December, but it's now looking like it will be a bit earlier. It is very hard to estimate timelines for these however, since we have experienced significant delays during the process of exporting our modules to the online marketplace. For now we can say that the VTT will likely be available before the delivery of the physical rewards, Probably in October or November, depending on how quickly the online marketplace of Roll20 and Foundry approve our submission. If you are receiving the system-agnostic art pack, you can expect delivery MUCH sooner, since it will be available to download directly from Backerkit's digital download tool.

Production Begins

Production Begins

This isn't exactly new information, but it's still exciting. We have begun the process of producing the physical rewards for this campaign. The dice and minis are already queued for production over this summer, and we are in talks with printing companies to begin the printing process for the books and cards sometime next week.

When Do I Get My Stuff?

It is very difficult to nail down exact dates when dealing with so many moving parts, but it's also nice to have something to look forward to! We went ahead and drafted a rough outline for release dates so we can start getting excited. Please keep in mind that these dates are still estimates, and are subject to change. With this in mind, we estimate delivering digital rewards between July and October, with physical rewards being delivered in December. VTT support should also come out sometime in the Fall, but we penciled it in for December since we had some considerable delays last time we released a Roll20 product.

When Will My Credit Card Be Charged?

Our timeline has not changed since the last update. We are still on schedule to charge credit cards for shipping fees at the end of October. If this date changes, we will post an update as soon as we have more information.

Another Worthwhile Project

Wyrmworks Publishing is currently running a campaign to improve disability representation in ttrpgs that includes a diverse line of disabled character miniatures, condition markers for visually impaired gamers, and advice for including disabled characters in your games respectfully. Disability representation in gaming is something that is important to us, and Dale Critchley even collaborated with us on character design for the "Heroes of the Heavenly Host" deck for our campaign. we hope that you'll consider supporting his campaign too!

Updated Manufacturing Timeline

Last Call for Surveys!

Please note that this is the last public reminder for you to complete your BackerKit Survey before the May 30 deadline. We cannot guarantee fulfillment of your rewards if you do not complete this step.

Manufacturing Update

We apologize for the delay on this update, as we have been on and off the phone with our manufacturing partners for the last two weeks. We were initially waiting to make an update when we had some more concrete dates, but for now, suffice to say that the manufacturing process has begun. We have locked our  orders with Trenchworx and QWorkshop, and the production of the minis and dice will likely begin in July. We are currently estimating that the manufacturing process for the dice and minis will be complete by the end of August, and the printing of the hardcover will be complete by mid-October. These dates are still estimates, since there are still a lot of pieces in motion, but it seems prudent at this point to announce that we are running ahead of schedule. This updated timeline would have your credit card charged for shipping fees on October 31, and addresses locked once payment is processed. All of this adds up to a likely delivery of rewards in December 2023. December is obviously a busy time for parcel delivery, so we will not even try to estimate a firm delivery date until that time gets closer.

See below for a visualization of our updated timeline. Manufacturing dates (which are unconfirmed at this time) are in yellow, with new fulfillment estimates marked below in green.

Updated Progress Report

We have updated the Progress Tracker to show the individual progress of each component of the project. Previously, there was only one progress bar for "Manufacturing," but now we have broken down each reward on its own line. As we complete steps in communication with our manufacturing partners, these progress bars will be updated automatically. Feel free to check this tracker at any time for minute-by-minute progress as we inch toward the finish line!

When will the digital rewards be delivered?

Right now our priority is making sure the manufacturing and printing processes are well and truly underway, since they can take 3-4 months to complete. Once the ball is rolling on every aspect of producing the physical rewards (probably within the next 3 weeks), we will post an update with delivery dates for all digital rewards. Digital rewards will be delivered sooner than physical rewards, but (again) we first need to close and process the Backerkit survey, and initiate the production of physical rewards before we think about exporting and delivering any digital rewards. Also, please keep in mind that some digital rewards (such as VTT modules) are still undergoing the conversion process and may take longer to deliver than others.

Easter Update

An Easter Update

As we enter into the season of Easter, we wanted to share a few updates about the fulfillment process for this project. The short version of this update is: everything is either on time or ahead of schedule.

Survey Reminder

Please remember to fill out your BackerKit Survey in the next few weeks, if you haven't already. Over 90% of you have already done this, which is great, but there are still around 70 surveys that have not been submitted. As a reminder, we cannot guarantee that we can fulfill your rewards unless you complete your survey. If you need help recovering your survey, you can use this link.

Progress Report

The text of the book was finished this week, and all of our efforts are now focused on the process of editing the content and layout of the book. We are currently waiting on a few more illustrations to come in from our artists, but everything is on time in that department as well. In fact, everything so far has either finished on time or ahead of schedule, and it looks like we will be starting the manufacturing process in May (rather than in June). A lot can happen during the manufacturing process, and we are working with three different fulfillment partners, so we are not prepared to update our estimated delivery schedule quite yet. You can expect another update in May, which will include feedback from our manufacturing partners and an updated timeline for fulfillment. For now, we'll leave it at this: everything has so far been trending ahead of schedule.

For your planning purposes, here is our fulfillment timeline. If any of these major dates change (such as the date we plan to charge your credit card for shipping), we will let you know at least a few weeks if not a few months in advance. As always, you can use this link any time to check live to-the-minute updates of our fulfillment process.

All dates are estimates. Click here for live updates.

Book Update

Since the text of the book is essentially finished at this point, we can now share some more concrete details about what you can expect to find inside it. Here's a snapshot of the module content:

  • Total page count: 252
  • 50 New Monsters
  • 31 New Magic Items
  • 5 New Subclasses
  • 12 Chapters

For a more detailed breakdown of how the book will be organized, here is the current Table of Contents. Please note, the book is still in draft form, and this content is subject to change in the final release of the book. However, for now, this should give you an idea what to expect of the final product.

Progress Report

Progress Report

We are well into March, and so it's time for an update.  As far as the actual writing and illustrating goes, we are actually probably ahead of our projected timeline, but we are also coordinating with three different manufacturing partners this year, so we won't officially be "ahead of schedule" until we move to the manufacturing phase and see what the supply chain looks like later in the year. As always, you can keep tabs on our progress here, and review the timeline below for information such as when the BackerKit survey closes, or when your credit cards will be charged for shipping.

All dates are estimates. Our actual fulfilment may be faster or slower than this.

89 Surveys to GO

A huge "thank you" to all of you who have completed your surveys already! These surveys are vital to the fulfillment process, and we cannot guarantee the delivery of your rewards unless you complete your survey by May 30.  At present, 89 surveys are still incomplete. If you are having trouble finding the email from BackerKit, click here to recover your survey.

Painting War

This video was posted quite some time ago in our Discord Server, but I just realized that I never posted it in an update here on Kickstarter. Continuing with the process of looking over the prototypes for the Four Horsemen minis, here is a video of the assembly and paint process for War:
